How do you design a family home on La Côte, between Nyon, Rolle and Gland?

In short

On La Côte, between Nyon, Rolle and Gland, a well-designed family home combines a large living space open to the garden and the lake, children's rooms that grow with them and plenty of storage. We start with an on-site survey, then build a concept around how the family really lives.

Between Geneva and Lausanne, La Côte brings together vineyards, villages and views over the lake and the Alps, with the Jura behind. Family homes here vary widely: villas with gardens, village houses and more recent houses on the edges of towns. The needs are often similar: more light, a living room that brings everyone together, bedrooms suited to each age and storage for an active life.

A living space that brings people together

The heart of the house is often a living room, dining area and kitchen that work together. In the Baules villa in Begnin, a 60 m² living space was transformed to connect these uses better. At Cœur de la Côte, in Mont-sur-Rolle, the villa was completely renovated. The aim is the same: open up where possible, keep quieter corners and make the most of the view and the garden.

Bedrooms and attics for the children

  • Use the attic when it lends itself to it: in Etoy, the La Vaux project turned an attic into two children’s rooms.
  • Plan bedrooms that adapt as children grow, with custom furniture and built-in storage.
  • Apply neurodesign and biophilic design principles (natural light, natural materials, soothing colours) to support calm and concentration.

Entrance, storage and permits

A well-planned entrance, with room for shoes, bags and sports equipment, changes a family’s daily routine. For works that affect the structure, a window or the use of a room, such as an attic conversion, an authorisation may be needed. We check this from the concept phase, and it should be confirmed with the commune.

Key takeaways

  • A living space open to the garden and the view is the centre of a family home.
  • Attics and custom furniture create bedrooms that grow with the children.
  • Works on the structure or the attic are checked with the commune.
